"Hello Friends! We regret to announce that after 41 years we will be permanently closing the doors here at Back Country Ski and Sport. Next week, 7/6-7/11 we will be liquidating the remaining inventory as well as store fixtures. Hours of operation will be Monday-Saturday 10-5pm. It has been a pleasure serving this community and getting folks in the outdoors. We hope to see a lot of familiar faces as we send this thing off! "

Update 5/25/2020
5/25/2020 Update – After 27 years of service in the Roanoke Valley we have made the decision to close our Salem location. This was a very difficult decision and not taken lightly. It has been a wonderful journey to serve the community here and build relationships that have flourished far beyond just doing business. We’ve had marriages, families, and what will be lifelong friendships originate out of this store. The Back Country Ski and Sport crew is and always will be an unbreakable family.

The plan going forward: We have been spending the last few weeks cleaning things up and getting the store sanitized and ready for a liquidation sale. Starting tomorrow 5/26 we will be open for business in the Salem location Tuesday-Saturday 10-5pm. Our last day of operation is tentatively set for June 15th. The Blacksburg location will have to remain as “by appointment only” due to limited staffing and the plan for reopening in Blacksburg will be updated at a later date as our main focus is with the Salem location for now. With a small number of employees hours could change if something comes up and we will let you know if they do. We are still flexible on shopping appointments in Blacksburg or if you can’t make it here during normal hours. Our employees will be wearing masks and gloves as needed and we will continue to clean surfaces frequently. This sale is store wide with many items up to 60% off. If you love all things outdoors we still have loads of great inventory marked as low as you will ever find it!

If you think you have a personal item at the store such as skis in our ski shop or a boat on repair or a consignment item, we will be calling everyone with options for pick up. If you need to get in touch, the best way to do so is by DM on Facebook, email andrew@bcski.com or call the Salem store during business hours at 540-389-8602.
To the vast amount of people that have shopped with us over the years we thank you so much. We hope to see everyone in here over the next couple weeks. Please do us a favor and share this post and come shop our remaining inventory.
Thank you,

Andrew Hoskins

Please do us a favor and share this post to get the word out. Also of note, we are getting a lot of inquiries about kayaks. We do not have any left.

So sorry to hear this. Thanks for all your service. Every time I needed something, you guys had it. I’ve been shopping there since the ‘80s. 🙁

So sorry to hear for the employees and community. And someone please open another ski shop so I don’t have to learn how to mount bindings and repair skis.

Such sad news, the staff have been always been amazing at Back Country. We have been geared up for ski and kayak here over the years.

Sorry to hear this. I worked at the Blacksburg store while at Radford in 1998-1999. I bought a kayak from you in Salem in 2013. ALways enjoyed stopping by on my way through after I moved away. Good memories.

So sorry to see this! It would almost be worth the trip from South Dakota 😩

This shop outfitted a lot of my early adventures. It’s a shame to see it go

Sad to hear it!

Is this a photo of the current inventory you have?

Brandon Dillon, need any more skis?

Kate Rooke need any outdoor stuff?

Any darn tough socks?

Do you have any kayak’s?

I got my first pair of skis there in the mid 80’s. K2’s. Got a sweet deal on some boots, backpacks and shoes at your Roanoke closing. You guys are the best. I loved your stores and staff. This actually makes me very sad but all I have to say is it was a great run and you all did it with style, knowledge and class. You will be missed. 💪🏼🇺🇸

Are you selling any of the signage? Interested in that never summer banner and anything else snowboard related.

Sorry to hear about the shop closing! Rad shop glad I was able to visit last year!

I'd like to see some more pictures of inside the store including the back shop where I spent a lot of time.

Might have to take a trip over there and see if they're willing to make any deals on fixtures for see what they have that they make a deal on if purchasing a large quantity of items

WOW ... another end of an Era! We will miss you ... I hope you have some grand adventures waiting for you to embark..

OH!! I hope you are closing willingly. Y’all were an important part of my growing up and being a teenager who loved/ was obsessed with whitewater kayaking. You are an institution. I wish I were closer. Thank you for your service to my, and my father’s, love of whitewater and your devotion to Blacksburg for so many years. 41 years. That is awesome. 💗

I would love any open shelving and can pick up today!

Do you have anything left?

Is the hangboard still hanging?

John Mays

Did Rube work there all 41 years? In the beginning, he was the store manager.
