Hey folks, Pat here with Back Country Ski & Sports.

I want to talk to you about something really neat that we’ve been doing for the past few years.

It’s the New River Paddle Fishing Tournament. We host it in the McCoy area, near Blacksburg VA on the New River.

It’s a really fun event, and one of the more exciting things we do. It’s a catch, photo and release paddle fishing tournament.  Canoes, kayaks, john boats – no motors is the only real rule.

This summer, 2013 will be the fourth year we’ve been doing it and it’s been a ton of fun.

It’s a fairly cheap fishing tournament, $25 dollar pre-register. That includes a t-shirt, your regristration for the tournament, we’ll run your shuttle at the end of the and we’ll feed you dinner.

Just by competing and entering into the event, you get a raffle ticket for – this is a Wilderness Systems Tarpon 120, donated to us by Wilderness Systems, they’re a major sponsor of the event.

This year we’re doing something a little bit different, we’re going to offer people the opporunity to come in and grab a raffle ticket at any point from now until end of July.

You can increase your odds by buying as many tickets as you want, cash only and any money that we generate from this kayak we’re going to donate to the National Committee for the New River. If you don’t know much about the National Committee, they

do some great things for the New. They do a lot with stream restoration, improving and repairing buffers along the streams that keep sediment from filling up the rivers and the water from becoming hot – keeping wildlife healthy in the rivers.

They do a ton of great stuff. Everyone take something from the event, everyone has fun, everyone has great memories but we really weren’t able to give back to the river. Now, with donating to the National Committee for the New River, I think we’ll be able to give back, which just fulfills the whole event.

To be able to get out there, have fun, kayak fish, relate with other people, get some ideas about how to do some stuff a little bit differently, and then to be able to give back to the community – to know it’s going to be there year after year after year.

It’s truly a great event. We’ll have plenty of details on our website soon, bcski.com, we’ll have all the details for the paddle fishing tournament.

If you want to know more about the National Committee for the New River, ncnr.org is their website.

Let us know if you have any questions on the event, we’d love to hear (from) you, we’ll post some pictures from last year.

It’s really fun, hope to see you there this year, thanks.
